3 Essential Tips For Packing The Allpa 28L
Tip 1: Wear your bulkiest layers on travel days. We’ll list out our specific suggestions on what to wear below.
Tip 2: Pick neutral colors or a color scheme for all your clothing. It makes mixing and matching super easy and helps you maximize your outfit options.
Tip 3: Bring a hip pack. It can store all your smaller essentials like your phone and sunglasses. And it’s the perfect bag to bring along on your daily outings once you arrive at your final destination.
What To Wear During Your Travels
Maximizing your layers in a small pack requires planning out what you’re wearing in advance. To free up space in your bag, we suggest traveling in a quick-dry top (short-sleeve or long-sleeve depending on season and where you’re headed) and quick-dry pants. The breathability and anti-odor technology will keep you comfortable on long travel days, act as lounge clothes during downtime, and/or double as activewear for the sweatier pursuits you have planned.
We also recommend throwing on a fleece (tie it around your waist if you get too hot) and a pair of sneakers (athletic, casual, or something in between) on travel days.
How To Pack Your Allpa
Now that you’ve checked off your bulkiest items, it’s time to fill up that small but mighty 28L pack. For tops, we recommend a quick-dry t-shirt or tank to round out your comfy/active tops, a casual t-shirt or tank that you can dress up or down, and a lightweight button-up that you can wear as a stand-alone piece or as an extra layer over a tee.
As for bottoms, we suggest packing a pair of quick-dry shorts (or a skort!), casual shorts (or a skirt!), and casual pants. This should have you covered for just about every temp and occasion you could come across over a weekend trip.
When it comes to jackets, it’s always a good idea to have a rain jacket (doubles as a windbreaker) and a casual lightweight jacket, too.
Aside From Clothes
If you’d like to bring something other than sneakers, a pair of sandals (like Birkenstocks, Tevas, or Chacos) are your best bet at fitting an additional pair of shoes into that little 28L pack. The slimmer the sandals, the better—depending on what else you’re packing, those Birks might end up being too bulky. You could also clip sandals to the outside of your pack with a carabiner using one of the four exterior webbing loops if you don’t have room inside your pack.
Your pack is probably feeling pretty maxed out at this point, but don’t forget to pack underwear, socks, a minimalist pair of PJs, and a toiletry kit. Pro tip: If you’re traveling for longer than a weekend, pack a mini laundry detergent to keep your minimalist rotation of clothes clean as needed—just hand-wash in the sink and air dry.
Toss a reusable water bottle in the exterior mesh pocket, clip your hat of choice to the outside of your pack, and you’re on your way!
Add A Hip Pack
On a short weekend trip with a small pack, you’ll want to keep most of your extras at home. But if you’re able to bring a hip pack, it’s the perfect spot to store the rest of your essentials like a phone, charger, wallet, headphones, and sunglasses.
Pro tip: if you like to read or journal, consider downloading a book and taking notes on your phone or tablet to save space. The Allpa 28L does have a 15” padded laptop sleeve that you can slip a thin laptop or tablet into as well.
