Delivering Poverty Solutions That Work

Proximity Designs is a nonprofit social enterprise based in Myanmar that designs and delivers affordable products and services to help people living in extreme poverty. Its drip irrigation systems, foot pumps, and water storage containers help boost the lifestyles, agricultural productivity, and incomes for more than 250,000 rural people across the country.

Why we Love Them

Myanmar is one of the poorest countries in the world. It’s a nation of 60 million people, most of whom are hard-working, enterprising small-plot farmers. Most still live in poverty, lack electricity, access to financial services, and the technology to be more productive. It is a land of immense need, alongside tremendous opportunity. In a country where 70% of the population depends on agriculture, improvements in farming technology and techniques—and the credit to access them—are vital to improving living conditions and ending poverty. Proximity Designs is at the forefront of this work.

Impact Highlights:

  • Increased incomes in more than 100,000 rural households
  • Completed more than 546 village infrastructure projects
  • Providing services to more than 80% of Myanmar’s rural population—reaching more than 10,000 villages, in 125 townships, across 9 states and divisions
  • Directly impacted 486,500 people
