Why We Built This

We don’t want to feel like a top-secret ninja every time we go to the grocery store. We also wanted to create a light, breathable mask—something we wouldn’t mind wearing all day long.

Why It's Different

All the colors. Fully reversible. Made from repurposed fabric.

About This Product

Description

Made using surplus fabric, these super comfortable, non-medical grade masks keep perfectly good materials out of the landfill.

Each mask is made from 100% cotton and includes two layers of fabric. To allow for breathability and ease of wear, the fabric is a lightweight cotton, similar to the weight of a dress shirt. Designed to be worn alone or over a disposable medical mask.

In 2020, we donated one face mask for every face mask purchased to communities in need, including to displaced refugees, entrepreneurs of color, and native tribes. Learn more about how we teamed up with Mercy Corps to provide more than 35,000 masks to communities in Guatemala and Haiti.

A note from our CEO

In designing this product, we focused on building a mask that was sustainable, comfortable, breathable, beautiful, and in line with CDC guidelines. We feel we accomplished those goals with our current mask, but as with all our products, we are always looking to improve. Customer feedback is an important part of improving product. While most have loved the fit, style, and comfort of the mask, some have expressed concern that the two-layered cotton fabric is too thin and makes them unsure if the mask protects as well as it needs to. We appreciate the feedback and are already working with our design and manufacturing teams to use slightly thicker cotton material in future versions of the mask. In the meantime, if you are someone worried about the thickness of your mask, we would encourage you to double up the mask, pair it with a medical grade mask, or resort to a different mask altogether.

Care Instructions
Cloth face coverings are an additional step to help slow the spread of COVID-19 when combined with other preventative measures and social distancing. The CDC advises washing cloth face coverings after each use. This means that even though our masks are reversible, they still need to be washed before wearing the reverse side. We recommend following CDC instructions for washing and drying your mask. Because our masks are 100% cotton, they may become wrinkled after washing, and their pleats may need to be ironed back into place. To avoid ironing, flatten fabric after washing and lay flat to air dry.

Behind The Design

Our Giving Model

Giving is core to who we are. We tie our earnings to impact by allocating 1% of annual revenues to the Cotopaxi Foundation, which then distributes multi-year grants to thoroughly vetted nonprofit organizations who focus on improving the human condition and fighting extreme poverty. Since 2014, we have helped our impact partners reach an estimated 3 million people in extreme poverty through traceable and valid means.
